What do occupational therapists do?

Occupations can be defined as meaningful activities that occupy your time. Occupational therapists use occupations as the method of developing goals to support independence. For example, a child's main occupation is play, so an OT might use play as the method to support development and independence. If an adult is seeking services for sensory regulation, an OT might support this individual with knowing/validating how and where to stim and with structuring their routine to prevent sensory meltdowns.

What approaches are used to support occupations?

-Developmental
-Sensory and Nervous System Regulation
-Person-led
-Neurodiversity-affirming, strengths-based
-Holistic/family-focused
